Project Description

The Eastgate house project consisted of a new build penthouse to the top of a five storey old paper mill overlooking the West Quay docks of Southampton. The first challenge with this project was to remove the roof leaving existing oak trusses in position and re-locating two of them to each gable end of the buildings which would be incorporated in the Penthouse, this being a stipulation from the conservation officer. The next job was to crane the huge 9m steels which would form the floor supports and new cranked roof steel bases. Once all the steel work was in place, the structure of the penthouse could be formed, including the lift shaft which ran from ground to penthouse level. The penthouse itself was a 3 bedroom property with 2 bathrooms (one ensuite), fully fitted kitchen and large terrace to enjoy the spectacular views over the docks. On top of this, we carried out a total refurbishment to all five floors, including car parking underneath.
